History
On January 28, 2003 the Southern Maine Women's Golf Association (SMWGA) created a new organization, the Southern Maine Women's Golf Association Scholarship Fund. The new organization was formed solely for the purpose of providing scholarships for women who reside in southern Maine, have demonstrated an interest in golf, and who are furthering their education.
Tax deductible donations may be made to Southern Maine Women's Golf Association Scholarship Fund a t58 Val Halla Rd, Cumberland, ME 040213. Copies of the Fund's IRS exemption letter, exemption application, and tax related annual information returns are available for public inspection at the SMWGA office.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be residents of southern Maine which includes York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, and Sagadahoc Counties, a portion of Oxford County including the town of Bethel and points south, and the towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor in Lincoln County.
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated based upon their level of interest and participation in the sport of golf, scholastic achievement, and participation in community activities.
Scholarships will be awarded annually during the month of September. It is anticipated that scholarship awards will be paid directly to the educational institution in which the recipient is enrolled.
