History of Southern Maine Women's Golf Association

How it all began

In 1976 a group of women spurred the formation of Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association. They took the initiative to contact members of other clubs in the Greater Portland area to see if they were interested in forming a southern Maine golf competition. Maine State Golf Association already had a weekly competition held at courses in central and northern Maine and the southern Maine women wanted more tournaments in the Portland area because of the great course selections and travel distance, but few were scheduled by the northern group.
