Details you need to know

Metropolitan –Biddeford/Saco June 27/28 (Tuesday & Wednesday)

  1. Format:  18-hole, best ball of four, medal play, 95% of handicap, on either Monday or Tuesday.

   2.    Eligibility:  Members of SMWGA form their own teams.  Only a team composed of members from the same club is eligible for the title of Club Team Champion.  This is a one day tournament, please sign up for only one team.

  3. Application Form:  Use 2 entry cards or online entry. Note choice of day (cannot be guaranteed).

  4. Entry Fee:            $116 per team.

  5. Prizes:  The Pat Whipple Club Team Championship Trophy will be awarded for one year to the Club Team with the overall low gross score.  In case of a tie, the winner will be determined by a match of cards starting with the number one handicap hole.  Daily gross and net prizes will be awarded based on the number of team entries.  Winners will receive Host Pro Shop credits as follows:

          lst Place –         $120    ($30 each[J1] )

          2nd Place –       $96                  ($24 each)

          3rd Place –       $72                  ($18 each)

          4th Place –        $56                  ($14 each)

          5th Place –        $52                  ($13 each)

          6th Place –        $48                  ($12 each)

      In case of ties, the sum of the positions equal to the number tying shall be divided, and the number of places equal to the number of teams tied shall be considered as having been awarded.

 Senior Championship –  Point Sebago July 11

1.     Format: 18-hole medal play with full handicap.

2.     Eligibility:        SMWGA member, age 55 and over.

3.     Application Form:  Only one entry per card. Please note age group.

4.     Entry Fee: $29

5.     Prizes:  Golfers will be divided into five age groups for prizes. No participant shall receive more than one prize.

          Group A: 55 – 59             Group D: 70 – 74

           Group B: 60 – 64             Group E: 75 + 

           Group C: 65 – 69

 a. The overall Champion shall be awarded the Evelyn Bache Trophy for one year and a prize. The Runner-up shall be awarded a prize and a pin.

b.  In case of a tie for the Championship, the winner will be determined by a sudden death play-off with the non-winner becoming the Runner-up.

c.  In case of a tie for the Runner-up, the winner will be determined by matching of cards, starting with the number one handicap hole, with the non-winner becoming the low gross winner in her age group.

d.  Gross and net prizes will be awarded in each age group; and a pin will be awarded for low gross in each age group.

e.  The number of prizes is determined by the number of competitors in each class.

f.  To the extent the field has to be limited, it will be limited to the lowest handicap indices.  Drawn out players may compete in the alternate tournament.

g.  Winners of Gross and Net prizes will receive Voucher award based on number of players.

 Maine Women’s Amateur  –  Martindale July 24,25,26

1. Format:  54-hole medal play with full handicaps.  Field is limited to 96 players and determined by lowest handicap indices.  Handicap as of July 1 will determine pairings.  Pairings will be in threesomes.

2.Eligibility: Open to any WMSGA or SMWGA member who has played in at least 3 WMSGA and/or SMWGA sponsored tournaments between the end of the previous year’s tournament to the close date of the current year. (  Does not include last year’s championship.)

2nd Annual Girls’ Golf Tournament: Saturday, September 16 Natanis Arrowhead:
To qualify a junior must have played in at least 3 SMWGA, WMSGA and
/or MSGA sponsored tournaments after July 11, 2015 and before July 10, 2016.

  3. Application Form:  A special entry packet will be supplied.. Carts are optional. Carts must be reserved at the time of application. 

  4. Entry Fee: TBD Juniors: TBD

  5. Winner:  The Maine Amateur Champion will be determined by the lowest gross score after 54 holes. In the event of a tie, the Champion will be determined by a sudden death play-off. Runner-up ties will be broken by matching cards according to USGA guidelines.   

 6. Prizes:  Champion, runner up and Junior Champion. Top 4 low gross of each flight.

     7. Default:  Tolerated only for illness or emergency. Should a player X-out on a hole or no-card for any other reason on the first day of play, this will constitute a “disqualification” and that player cannot participate in the second day of play.  Penalty for default may be exclusion from the following year’s Championship.

.B Division Championship – August 29 Poland Springs

1.     Format:  18-hole medal play. (No Rain Date). 

  1. Eligibility: Must be a full member of the SMWGA and have completed 3 SMWGA Tournaments between Championships, one of which may include the previous Championship. Entrants and handicap indices are subject to review and approval by the Handicapper and Tournament Schedulers.

3.     Application Form:  Use entry card and list three tournaments played since last Championship. (Tournaments cancelled due to weather do not count toward tournament requirement.)

4.     Entry Fee:  $29

5.     Winner:  The SMWGA B Champion will be determined by the lowest gross score after 18 holes. In the event of a tie, the Champion will be determined by a sudden death play-off. Runner-up ties will be broken by matching cards according to USGA guidelines.   

6.     Winner will receive the B Division Championship Trophy for one year and a prize.  Prizes will be awarded in each flight.  Number of flights and prizes is determined by the number of entries. 

 Two-Ball Tournament    Brunswick/Springbrook August 8

(Average of 2 handicap indices will determine course to be played. Lower handicap teams will play at Spring Meadow.

1.     Format:  18-hole event – better ball, medal play, 95% of handicap

2.     Eligibility:  Member selects partner. Note: partner does not have to be from same division.

3.     Application Form:  Use Entry Card

4.     Entry Fee:  $50 per team

5.     Awards:  Voucher credit

 Two Best Balls of Four (Gross & Net) – Sable Oaks/Fairlawn August 22

(Average of 4 handicap indices will determine course to be played. Lower handicap teams will play at Point Sebago.

    1. Format:  18-hole event – two lowest scores on each hole are added together for an aggregate team score, 95% of handicap

  2. Eligibility:  Members form own teams

  3. Application Form:  Use 2 Entry Cards

  4. Entry Fee:  $100 per Team

   5. Awards: Voucher award based on number of players.

  6. Field:  144 players at each course

  The Founders Scramble – Falmouth/Riverside September 12

  (Team handicap average determines course to be played. Lower handicap teams will play at Falmouth).

  1. Format:  18-hole gross and net event – Team’s handicap is sum of 20% of A player handicap, 15% of B player handicap, 10% of C player handicap, and 5% of D player handicap.

  2. Eligibility:  Members form own team

  3. Application Form:  Use 2 Entry Cards

  4. Entry Fee:  $116 per team            

  5. Awards:  Pro Shop Credits

  6. Field:  144 players at each course

Two-Ball Tournament  –  Webhannet September 26

  1. Format:  18-hole event – better ball, medal play, 95% of handicap

  2. Application Form:  Use Entry Card

  3. Entry Fee:  $50 per team

  4. Awards:  Voucher award based on number of players.

 Scholarship Tourney–   Val Halla October 3 Sunday

  1. Benefits the SMWGA Scholarship Fund.
  2. Format: Scotch Ball Modified Pinehurst.
  3. Eligibility: Woman needs to be a SMWGA member; man not required to be a golf course member but needs a valid handicap index in order to compete for net prizes.
  4. Application Form: Use special entry form posted on SMWGA web site or available from Club Reps.
  5. Entry Fee: TBA
  6. Awards: Net and gross; Voucher award based on number of players.Details will be posted on the website.
  7. Unofficial, fun tournament. Does not count toward year-end prizes or eligibility for Championship.
